"He said to them, 'But who do you say that I am?' Simon Peter answered, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'" — Matthew 16:15-16

Ask a room full of historians whether Jesus of Nazareth existed, and you'll get something rare: agreement. Secular scholars, skeptics, and self-proclaimed atheists alike acknowledge that a Jewish teacher named Jesus walked the roads of first-century Palestine and left behind a following large enough — and disruptive enough — to get him executed by Rome. The Roman historian Tacitus mentions him in the Annals. The Jewish historian Josephus references him in Antiquities of the Jews. Even scholars who reject Christianity outright rarely argue that Jesus never lived.

But that's not actually the question that matters most.

Whether Jesus existed is a question historians can settle with documents and dates. Whether Jesus is who he claimed to be — the Son of God, the one who died and rose again — is a question no amount of historical record can answer for you. That's a question of faith. And faith is where the real search begins.

This series, Finding the Real Jesus, is about that gap. Not the gap between belief and unbelief, but the gap between knowing about Jesus and knowing him. We'll walk through his true impact — not just as a moment frozen in history, but as a living truth that still reaches into ordinary lives today. Along the way, we'll lean on historical fact,

Scripture, and the honest questions real people carry.

Who this series is for:

  • The skeptic on the fence, who isn't ready to say "I believe" but isn't willing to walk away either.

  • The believer whose faith is real but could use a fresh look at why it's worth holding onto.

  • The one in the middle of hardship, quietly wondering if there's anyone actually listening.

Wherever you're starting from, you're welcome here.

Man vs. Faith

It's well established that Jesus walked this earth. Much of what the Bible records can be traced to real historical events, real places, real people. But the sticking point for most isn't whether Jesus was real — it's whether he was who he said he was.

That question sits closer to home than we'd like to admit. The devout follower and the committed skeptic often find themselves asking the same quiet thing: Am I wrong about Jesus? For every reason to call him Lord and Savior, there seems to be a reason to shrink him down to a name in a history book — a significant man, maybe, but nothing more than that. An occurrence 2,000 years ago.

That's the tension this series was built to sit inside. Not to rush past it, and not to argue you out of it — but to walk through it honestly, one post at a time.

Where This Series Will Lead

A Skeptic's Perspective

You don't have to pretend to believe something you're not sure of to read this. Some of the most honest people I know are the ones who've said, "I want this to be true, but I need a reason." This post isn't for the reader who's already convinced. It's for the one still standing at the door, hand on the handle, not quite ready to walk through — and that's exactly where this conversation should start.

More Than Just a "Higher Power"

"Something out there" has never asked anyone to trust it with their pain. A higher power can be comforting in the abstract, but it can't sit with you in a hospital waiting room. It doesn't have a name, a face, a history, or a voice that ever said "come to me." Jesus isn't a placeholder for the mystery of the universe — he's the one who stepped into it and said, follow me. That's a very different kind of hope.

The Afterlife

Everyone believes something about what happens next — even "nothing" is a belief. The question isn't whether you have a theory about death, it's whether that theory can hold the weight of someone you love actually dying. Jesus didn't offer a theory. He offered a promise, and then he backed it up by walking out of his own grave. That's worth slowing down on.

No Faith?

Maybe you tried faith once and it didn't survive contact with real life. Maybe you were never handed any to begin with. Either way, this post isn't going to ask you to manufacture belief you don't have. It's going to ask a smaller, more honest question: not "do you have faith," but "is there anyone worth putting it in?"

Still Here

History can tell you Jesus lived two thousand years ago. It can't tell you he's with you right now — but that's the claim Christians have made since the beginning: not just that he was here, but that he still is. Not a memory. Not a legacy. A presence. This post is about what that actually looks like in an ordinary life.

Loved Before You Knew Him

Before you ever searched for him, he wasn't waiting to see if you'd measure up. The love this series has been building toward isn't a reward for finding the right answers — it was there before you asked a single question. This is the post where the search ends and something better begins: being known, and loved anyway.

Prayer

Lord, we ask that this series would be more than words on a page. Take these posts and use them to open hearts that are guarded, minds that are searching, and hands that are hesitating on the door handle. For the skeptic, give clarity. For the believer, give renewal. For the one walking through hardship, give peace that doesn't depend on circumstances. Let every reader who comes to this series leave it closer to knowing you — not just knowing about you. In Jesus' name, amen.

A Word of Encouragement

Wherever you're reading this from — certain, doubting, or somewhere in between — you didn't stumble onto this series by accident. The fact that you're even asking the question means something is already stirring in you. That's not something to be afraid of. It's an invitation. Keep reading, keep asking, keep showing up. The real Jesus is worth finding, and he's not hiding.
