Finding the REAL Jesus: The Same God is Still Here

Girl with bible praying
"...and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God with us). — Matthew 1:23

Maybe you're not even sure God exists. Or maybe you believe there's something out there, but it feels like static — distant, silent, unreachable. A force that started things moving and then stepped back to watch how it all plays out, keeping some invisible tally of who's good enough and who isn't.

If that's the picture in your head, it's no wonder searching for God feels like shouting into an empty room.

Here's what I want you to consider before anything else: that distant, scorekeeping God isn't the one the Bible describes. And if He feels far away, that says nothing about whether He's real — it might just mean you've never been shown who He actually is.

A God Who Hasn't Changed His Mind

Whatever you've experienced — disappointment, silence, doubt — one thing has stayed constant since the very beginning of everything:

"For I the Lord do not change." — Malachi 3:6
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."— Hebrews 13:8

This isn't a God who used to be close and drifted away, or who shows up for some people and not others. Scripture describes Him as unchanging — the same at creation, the same today. If He feels distant, it's worth asking: distant from what? Because the God described in Scripture has never been the passive one.

Why the Distance Feels Real

Here's an honest answer, not a dodge: something genuinely stands between people and God. Not because He put it there, but because brokenness — sin, however you want to name it — created real separation. It's why ancient Israel had a whole system of sacrifices and priests, an entire structure built just to bridge that gap, over and over, because nothing fully closed it.

That's the honest diagnosis: the problem was never that God stopped reaching. It's that nothing we could do was enough to reach back.

The Moment Everything Changed

And then something happened that changes the whole question.

"And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom." — Matthew 27:51

In the Temple, a massive curtain separated ordinary people from the presence of God — off-limits, guarded, sacred space no one could casually enter. The moment Jesus died on the cross, that curtain tore. Not slowly. Not partially. Instantly, from top to bottom — a detail that makes it clear this wasn't torn by human hands.

Hebrews puts words to what that moment means: we now have confidence to enter the holy places through Jesus, by a new and living way (Hebrews 10:19–20). Not a temporary fix. A door, thrown open, that was never going to close again.

If you're searching for evidence that God wants to be found — this is it. He didn't wait for us to figure Him out. He tore down the barrier Himself.

Still Reaching, Right Now

This is what makes the search different than you might expect: God isn't a mystery hiding just out of reach, waiting to see if you're clever or good enough to find Him.

"I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you." — John 14:18

He's the one doing the reaching. He has been since the beginning — through creation, through history, through Jesus, and even through whatever brought you to read this sentence today. Wondering if He's real isn't a wall between you and God. It might be Him already reaching toward you.

He is still here. And He's not waiting for you to arrive first.

Prayer

God, if You're really there — I want to know it. Thank You that You're not distant, not silent, not keeping score, waiting to see if I measure up. Thank You that You've already made a way to be found. Meet me in this searching. Help me see what's true, and give me the courage to keep asking. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Word of Encouragement

If you're searching, let this be the thing you take with you: you are not chasing a God who's hiding. You're not trying to earn your way into the good graces of someone reluctant to notice you. From the very beginning, He has been moving toward you — patiently, without changing His mind, all the way to a cross where He tore down the last barrier Himself. The search you're on isn't you closing a distance He created. It's you waking up to a nearness that was already there. He is still here. He has been the whole time.
