Finding the REAL Jesus: Where Faith Belongs

I hear this all the time: people claim to have faith, yet they treat God like an insurance policy — only there when we need Him. It's a faith that conveniently keeps God in our control, while quietly ignoring His will and the great plans He has for us.
Faith is the foundation of a relationship with God — one He desperately wants with you. But faith alone, without the acceptance of Jesus, is just as dangerous as having no faith at all.
Where Faith Belongs
To lack faith in Jesus is to say, "Jesus, we don't quite trust You. We don't trust that You want what's best for us." And a lack of faith is poison. It keeps us living in fear. It hardens us. Left alone, it destroys us.
Lack of faith leads to a lack of moral grounding. People often reduce religion to a set of moral rules to follow. And people who lose their moral footing become more susceptible to broken trust, isolation, being exploited or exploiting others, and real psychological distress. They can become trapped by their own wickedness — convinced they could never be saved, never be redeemed.
But Jesus, through grace, is still reaching. Still pursuing. Still wanting to pour His love into us and reveal the good He placed there. Faith in Jesus was never a demand that we become moral first. As we accept Him, we begin to reflect Him. His love overflows through us — so that what looks like morality on the outside is really something deeper: the love of Jesus poured out through us.
"And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us." — Romans 5:5
Lack of faith leads to a loss of hope for something better. It's easy to get swallowed by the brokenness of this world — our own tribulations, and everything happening around us. We're told this brokenness is proof God doesn't exist. Our hope gets snuffed out in those moments. We hear "Jesus saves," yet our trials remain, the world seems to get worse, and it feels like the evil one is winning.
But that's a lie — a clever, age-old trap the enemy uses to destroy us. The truth is Jesus does save us, and He continues to save us. He never promised an easy life, but He claims you. His love and grace offer a reward worthy of every sacrifice — a reward far greater than anything this world can hold. Our hope is Jesus, and the promise that we will one day share fully in the richness of His glory.
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God — this is your true and proper worship." — Romans 12:1
Lack of faith leads to filling the void with something else. We are hardwired to worship. We are hardwired to belong. When faith is missing, we fill that hole with worldly things that never satisfy, never fulfill, and always let us down in the end. This is the road to addiction, to exploitation, to emptiness disguised as fulfillment.
Jesus knows us. He knows the danger in this. His path is narrow, yet He offers grace for those who stray. He knows the world pulls at us — and still, He offers hope. Still, He offers grace.
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." — Matthew 7:13-14
Prayer
Jesus, forgive us for the moments we've treated You like an insurance policy instead of a Savior — for keeping You at arm's length while calling it faith. We confess that our lack of trust has left us afraid, hardened, and empty in places only You were meant to fill. Thank You for never walking away, even when we did. Renew our hope. Fill the void only You can fill. Teach us to walk the narrow road, not because we're afraid of getting it wrong, but because we trust You want what's best for us. In Your name we pray, Amen.
Word of Encouragement
If you've spent years managing your faith instead of living inside a relationship with Jesus, hear this: it's not too late, and you haven't drifted too far. The same grace that reaches for the person who's never doubted also reaches for the one who's doubted everything. Jesus isn't waiting for you to clean yourself up, get your morals in order, or earn your way back before He'll love you — He's already reaching. He always has been.
Your part isn't perfection. It's trust. Let today be the day you stop keeping God at a distance and start letting Him claim you fully — fear traded for hope, emptiness traded for belonging, and a narrow road that, walked with Him, is lighter than it looks.
