What Makes God Happy? - Introducing a New Series!

There's a question most of us have carried longer than we realize.

Not out loud, maybe. Not in those exact words. But it's there, underneath the striving and the second-guessing and the quiet moments when we wonder if we're getting this faith thing right: Does what I do — who I am — actually make God happy?

It's one of the most honest questions a person can ask. And I think the answer might surprise you.

Over the coming weeks, we're going to explore that question together — not through the lens of performance or religion, but through the lens of grace. Because what God calls us to isn't a perfect record. It's a real relationship. And the things that bring Him joy are far more accessible — and far more personal — than most of us have been led to believe.

Here's where we're headed:

What Makes God Happy: Repentance, Not Perfection

We'll start here — because this is where so many of us get tangled up. God isn't sitting in heaven tallying our failures. He isn't keeping score. What moves His heart isn't a spotless record. It's a turned heart.

"I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent." — Luke 15:7

One sinner who turns. That's what fills heaven with joy. We'll begin here — with the stunning, grace-soaked truth that repentance isn't a punishment. It's a homecoming.

What Makes God Happy: A Humble Heart

Not impressive works. Not religious performance. Just a posture — a heart turned toward Him, willing to walk humbly in step with what He asks.

"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." — Micah 6:8

Three things. That's the whole list. No performance metrics. No achievement thresholds. Just justice, mercy, and humility — lived out in the ordinary moments of an ordinary life.

What Makes God Happy: Faith That Trusts Him in the Dark

This one is for everyone who has ever had to trust God in a season that made no sense — when the answers weren't coming and the silence felt heavy.

"Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." — Hebrews 11:6

Faith isn't certainty. It's coming to Him anyway — in the questions, in the waiting, in the dark. And that, Scripture tells us, is pleasing to God.

What Makes God Happy: Loving People the Way He Does

At some point, what pleases God moves us outward — into our relationships, our neighborhoods, our everyday moments. We love because He first loved us.

"Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us." — 1 John 4:11–12

His love isn't meant to stop with us. It's meant to move through us — and when it does, something of God becomes visible in the world.

What Makes God Happy: Simply Coming to Him

We'll end where it all begins — with the simple, profound act of coming. Not with the right words or the right posture or a cleaned-up version of yourself. Just coming.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28

No prerequisites. No performance required. Just an open invitation from a God who wants you — not your best version, not your most put-together self. Just you.

This series isn't about earning God's approval. It's about discovering that you already have it — and learning what it looks like to live from that place rather than toward it.

We'll take it one post at a time. I hope you'll come along.

Prayer: Lord, quiet the voice that tells me I have to earn Your love. Open my heart to receive what You've already given. As we walk through this together, let me know You not as a standard to reach but as a Father who delights in me. Amen.

Word of Encouragement: You don't have to have it all figured out to make God happy. You just have to keep coming back to Him. That's where everything starts.

Word of Encouragement

Wherever you are on this journey — whether your faith feels strong today or you're quietly wondering if any of this is real — this series is for you. You don't have to earn your way to God before you start reading. You don't have to have it together. The very fact that you're asking what makes Him happy tells me something important: your heart is already turned toward Him. And that is exactly where He wants you!
