Introduction

Have you ever given a life-changing gift to someone — knowing they could never repay you?

There is something deeply moving about sacrificial giving. It fills us with joy, not because of recognition or return, but because it connects us to something greater than ourselves.

I believe moments like this give us a glimpse into the heart of the Father.

God gave us the ultimate gift — Himself.

A sacrifice we could never repay.

A gift given not out of obligation, but out of love.

Our response to that gift is not repayment — it is gratitude. Jesus calls us to express our gratitude through worship, obedience, and humble service.

Giving to the Needy: Worship, Not Recognition

Jesus speaks directly to our motives when it comes to giving. He asks a piercing question beneath His words:

Why do we give?

Is it to glorify God — or to glorify ourselves?

Is it to serve — or to be seen?

When generosity becomes a performance, it loses its heart. A gift given to elevate ourselves no longer reflects the nature of God. Jesus calls us to something far more meaningful — giving as an act of worship.

True generosity flows from love, not attention.

It is quiet.It is humble.

And it honors God rather than the giver.

When we give in secret, God sees. And when God sees, our hearts are shaped to look more like His.

Service Is Worship

There’s a familiar saying: “Talk is cheap.”

Actions reveal what words often try to hide.

Jesus knows this about us. That’s why He warns against focusing on outward appearance — praying the “right” way, sounding spiritual, or appearing generous. When our worship becomes about performance, we fool ourselves long before we fool God.

God already knows what is in our hearts.

And others often sense when faith is only surface deep.

In Matthew 6, Jesus gently redirects us away from performance and toward dependence. He offers a simple prayer — not meant to impress, but to align our hearts with the Father. This prayer cuts straight to the core of worship, obedience, forgiveness, and trust.

True worship isn’t loud or polished — it’s honest.

Serving in God’s Kingdom

To serve in God’s Kingdom is not a burden — it is an honor.

By His grace, God invites us to participate in what He is already doing. He fills our lives with purpose as we serve others in His name. There is something deeply satisfying about serving — but there is something heavenly about serving to glorify God.

The world tells us fulfillment comes through accumulation:

  • More money

  • More power

  • More pleasure

  • More status

Jesus knows this is a lie.

These things promise happiness but leave us empty. Jesus warns us not to place our trust in what fades. Instead, He invites us to store our treasure in heaven — through generosity, humility, and service rooted in love.

A Prayer of Worship

God, thank You for designing us with the need to worship. Thank You for giving us hearts that are drawn to serve. Help us to serve in Your Kingdom — here on earth and in heaven — with humility and love. Guide us into worship that glorifies You, not ourselves, and fill our lives with purpose as we follow You. Amen.

Encouragement

This is a call to service — not comparison.

We don’t need to emulate others who appear to be doing “amazing” things. Jesus already showed us how to live in His Kingdom. Sometimes service looks small — a word of encouragement, a listening ear, a shared meal, or time spent with someone who feels unseen.

God uses these moments in life-changing ways.

To serve like Jesus is to be humble. We serve not for recognition, but for God’s glory. And we must also be humble enough to allow others to serve us.

This is how we were designed to live —Serving and loving one another - just as Jesus served and loved us first.
